Creating My Own Breathing Style: How I Designed a Custom Demon Slayer OC Using AI

If you’re a fan of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, you’ve probably done it. You’ve sat there, staring at the screen, wondering: What would my Nichirin sword look like? What Breathing Style would I use?

For most of us, the dream stops there because we aren't professional character designers. But thanks to the rise of specialized AI models, that’s no longer a barrier.

Last weekend, I decided to finally bring "Kaito" to life—my own Demon Slayer OC. Here is how I did it using the Demon Slayer OC Maker.

The Anatomy of a Great Demon Slayer OC

A good OC isn't just a character in a kimono. To feel like they belong in the world created by Koyoharu Gotouge, they need three things:

1. The Signature Pattern

Every Hashira has a distinct haori pattern. Tanjiro has the green checkers; Zenitsu has the triangles. For my character, Kaito, I wanted something that felt like "Midnight Mist"—a deep purple fading into charcoal grey.

2. The Nichirin Blade Color

Sword colors correspond to the user's breathing style.

  • Flame: Red
  • Water: Blue
  • Thunder: Yellow
  • My OC uses "Breathing of the Eclipse," so I needed a blade that was half-silver, half-black.

3. The "Ufotable" Aesthetic

This is the hardest part to draw by hand. It’s that sharp line art combined with high-contrast lighting and vibrant particle effects (like the water dragons or flame circles).

How the AI Creator Works

I used the AI Demon Slayer Character Generator. Unlike a general AI art tool, this one is specifically trained on the "Ufotable" style.

It uses LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) models that have been "fine-tuned" on thousands of frames from the anime. This means when you type "Breathing of Water effect," it knows exactly how those thick, blocky waves are supposed to look.

Step-by-Step: Bringing Kaito to Life

Step 1: The Prompting Stage

I didn't just type "Demon Slayer." I used a structured prompt:

"Male demon slayer, sharp eyes, deep purple haori with mist patterns, holding a black nichirin blade, Ufotable style, high resolution, dramatic lighting."

Step 2: Fine-Tuning the Appearance

The tool allowed me to select specific "Styles." I chose the "Hashira Edition" to ensure the outfit looked more intricate and prestigious.

Step 3: Adding the Effects

This is where the magic happened. I added a "Mist Effect" tag. The AI generated these beautiful, ethereal swirling clouds around the sword that perfectly matched the "Breathing of the Eclipse" vibe I was going for.

Why Use AI for Your OC?

The best part about using an AI OC Maker is the iteration. I went through 15 different versions of Kaito before I found the "one."

  • I changed his hair color from black to silver.
  • I moved him from a snowy mountain background to a wisteria forest.
  • I adjusted the "intensity" of his eyes.

By hand, this would have taken weeks. With AI, it took 20 minutes.

Community & Sharing

Once you’ve created your OC, the fun is just beginning. Many fans use these AI-generated designs as:

  • References for Cosplay: Giving you a 360-degree look at the outfit.
  • D&D or Roleplay Avatars: Bringing a visual element to your tabletop games.
  • Profile Pictures: Standing out in Discord or Twitter anime communities.

Final Thoughts: Respecting the Source Material

AI is a tool, but the heart of an OC comes from you—the fan. The AI helps with the "how," but you provide the "why."

Kaito isn't just a cool picture; he's the character I imagined while watching the Mugen Train arc. He’s a way for me to participate in a story I love.
